How to install the soundpack on your microKORG2

Install with Sound Librarian

1. Download and install the Sound Librarian

The microKORG2 Sound Librarian lets you view, organize, and share microKORG2 data with a Mac or Windows computer via USB and transfer sound data back and forth between the microKORG2 and the computer.

Please download and install the latest software from the Korg website. (https://www.korg.com/support/download/product/0/944/)

2. Backup the sound data on your microKORG2 unit to your computer

  1. Connect the microKORG2 hardware unit to your computer via a USB cable, open the Sound Librarian, and confirm that your microKORG2 unit is connected.
  2. Click the "RECEIVE All" button in the upper right corner of the screen to update the Sound Librarian's program list to the same contents as your microKORG2 unit.
  3. Select Save As from the File menu. The Save File dialog will appear. Specify the location and name where you want to save the file, and save the file to your computer.

3. Add the soundpack data, and transmit it to your microKORG2

  1. Unzip the downloaded file.
  2. Select "Open Preset Window" from the Setup menu to display the preset window.
  3. Select “Import Preset File” from the File menu and follow the import dialog. Select the unzipped soundpack file (.mk2preset). Then the data will be added to the preset window.
  4. Selecting one of the programs in the preset window will temporarily load it onto the microKORG2 unit, and you can test the sound.
  5. Drag and drop selected programs from the preset window into the program list to replace existing programs.
  6. To transmit and save specific programs or the entire data set to your microKORG2 unit, click "WRITE PROGRAM" or "WRITE ALL" at the top of the screen.

NOTE: You can replace multiple programs at once by selecting multiple programs in the preset window and dragging them into the program list. Likewise, you can transmit multiple programs to your unit all at once by selecting multiple programs in the program list and clicking "WRITE PROGRAM".

NOTE: If your microKORG2 unit has your custom programs, be sure to back up your sound data before sending new data. Transmitting sound data from the Sound Librarian will overwrite existing data in your unit.

For detailed instructions on how to use the microKORG2 Sound Librarian, please refer to the user manual included with the installer.

    1. Connect the USB port on the microKORG2 to your computer with a USB cable.
    2. Press the power button while holding down the FUNCTION 1 button to start up in USB mass storage mode.
The “microkorg2” USB drive is shown on your computer, which contains a “Programs” folder and a “Global” folder.
    3. Copy the program data (.mk2prog) and the global data (.mk2glob) from the respective folders to your computer to back up the data.
  1. Add the soundpack data to your microKORG2

    1. Delete all .mk2prog files from the "Programs" folder on the “microkorg2” drive.
    2. Unzip the downloaded soundpack file.
    3. Copy all .mk2prog files from the "Programs" folder in the unzipped folder to the "Programs" folder on the “microkorg2” drive.
    4. Press the FUNCTION 5 button to exit USB mass storage mode.
      The microKORG2 restarts automatically.

NOTE: If you’re connected to a Mac, first eject the “microkorg2” USB drive on your Mac before pressing the FUNCTION 5 button to exit USB mass storage mode on your microKORG2.

NOTE:
Some sounds might not load correctly if there are multiple .mk2prog files with the same first four characters (e.g., "C_A1") in the “Programs” folder. Instead of deleting all files in step 3, you can avoid this by deleting only the duplicate files.
