Recommended plug-in formats for specific plug-in hosts

Some plug-in hosts support multiple plug-in formats. In some cases, with a specific host, one format will work better than another. This article details the cases of which we are aware.

MOTU Digital Performer, macOS

For MOTU Digital Performer on macOS, we recommend using AU format, and not VST3.

Ableton Live, macOS

In Ableton Live, program changes are slower than expected for VST3 instruments in general, on both Windows and macOS. The slowness appears to be more noticeable for plug-ins with large numbers of automatable parameters, including modwave native. On macOS, we suggest using the AU version of modwave native as a workaround. Ableton is aware of this issue.
