wavestate Soundpack Installation Guide

This document explains how to install the sound data into the hardware wavestate and wavestate native. Wavestate native reads and writes the same file formats as the hardware wavestate’s Editor/Librarian (except for .wsbackup files), so that sounds are fully compatible between the two.

How do I download my wavestate soundpacks?

Your purchased wavestate soundpacks will be available for download in the "Your Products" section after you have registered your purchase. To do so:

  1. Log in at id.korg.com.
  2. Go to the "Register Sound Libraries" section and register your product. Use the product code sent to your email address after purchase. If you can't find the email, please check your spam folder. If you still can't find it, please contact us using our support page on support.korguser.net
  3. Once you have registered your soundpacks, go to the "Your Products" section.
  4. Scroll down to the "Download" link for the registered soundpack, and click on the link to download the product.

How do I install a soundpack in wavestate native?

Unzip the downloaded soundpack data before proceeding.

Import the Performance data

  1. In wavestate native, go to the Librarian page.
  2. From the menu in the upper right of the window, select the Import… command.
  3. In the dialog that appears, select the .wsbundle file(s) to import. You can select and import multiple files at once.
  4. Press the Open button.

The sounds will be imported into wavestate native. A message will appear to confirm the import, including information about which files have been added.

If the wavestate soundpack does not contain sample data, you're done; enjoy your new sounds! If it does contain sample data, proceed to the next step.

Install the sample data

Samples are contained in the included .korgcompiledbank and .korgbank files. For wavestate native, you need only the .korgcompiledbank file.

  1. Move the .korgcompiledbank file to a directory of your choice on your computer. If you have previously installed any User Sample Banks, move the purchased sample data to the same directory.
  2. In wavestate native, open the menu by clicking on the three-dot button in the top right corner.
  3. Select the User Sample Banks… command.
  4. In the dialog that appears, specify the directory where you put the .korgcompiledbank file, and then press the OK/Refresh button.

How do I install a soundpack on the wavestate hardware?

This section describes how to install the soundpack into your wavestate using the wavestate Editor/Librarian and Sample Builder.

Update the wavestate to the latest software version

In order to use wavestate soundpacks, the wavestate must be running software version 2.0 or higher; wavestates running older software will not be able to correctly load the data.

To update your wavestate, download the Korg System Updater. This application installs software updates onto select Korg hardware instruments. Currently, this includes the wavestate, modwave, and opsix instrument families. It automatically detects supported instruments, and connects to an internet server to find the latest available software versions. For more information, see the Korg System Updater manual.

Download and install the wavestate Editor/Librarian and Sample Builder

The wavestate Editor/Librarian for Mac and Windows lets you organize and edit data on the wavestate, and transfer sound data back and forth between the wavestate and the computer.

Sample Builder for Mac and Windows lets you load gigabytes of samples into supported Korg instruments and plug-ins. You'll use Sample Builder to import the sample portion of your soundpack.

Download and install both the wavestate Editor/Librarian and Sample Builder using the links above. After installation, you can find these applications on your computer:

Mac

  • Applications > KORG > wavestate > wavestate Editor Librarian
  • Applications > KORG > Sample Builder > Sample Builder

Windows

  • Start menu > KORG > wavestate Editor Librarian
  • Start menu > KORG > Sample Builder

If you have any difficulties, please see the manuals; you can open them directly from within the applications, using the Open Online Manual menu command.

Back up your wavestate sound data to your computer

It's always a good idea to back up your data.

  1. Connect the wavestate hardware unit to your computer via a USB cable, open the Editor/Librarian and confirm that your wavestate unit is connected.
  2. Select the Librarian window, and then use the File Menu > Backup... command.

Import the Performance data

First, import the Performance data using the Editor/Librarian:

  1. Open the Editor/Librarian, and go to the Librarian page.
  2. In the File menu, select the Import… command.
  3. In the dialog that appears, select the .wsbundle file(s) to import. You can select and import multiple files at once.
  4. Press the Open button.

The sounds will be imported into the wavestate.

For wavestate hardware, you need only the .korgbank file.

To install the sample data using Sample Builder:

  1. Open the Sample Builder application, and make sure that the application is connected to your wavestate.
  2. Select the BANK tab in the top right corner.
  3. Select Open Bank from the File menu.
  4. In the dialog that appears, select the .korgbank file and press the Open button.
  5. Click the SEND BANK button to transfer the sample data to your wavestate hardware.

Confirm that the wavesate hardware is showing “Receiving…” on the screen. Once that message disappears, the new samples are ready to play!
