modwave native release notes

Version 1.4.2

  • The keyboard commands for cut, copy, paste, and delete of Motion Sequence Steps previously worked only in the standalone application; they now also work when running as a plug-in. In some hosts, additional settings may be required; for example, in Reaper, you may need to right-click on the plug-in and choose the option to "Send all keyboard input to plugin."
  • Previously, Motion Sequence Lane Random Order could stop producing random results after many voices were played. This has now been fixed.

Version 1.4.1

  • When a single Performance is selected in the Librarian, a new contextual menu item is available: Add To Set List. This has the same functionality as the similar command in the Performance Selector at the top of the window. Note that this command will not appear if more than one Performance is selected.
  • In the Modulation List, the areas available for the Scope and Type filter buttons now resize dynamically based on the number of visible buttons.
  • Previously, in the Mod List, if filtering scopes (e.g. Mod Knobs) were hidden because they matched no items, subsequent filter buttons might not have worked properly. This has now been fixed.
  • Previously, the standalone application would hang at startup if the buffer size was set to 16 samples. This has now been fixed.
  • Previously, newly created Set Lists or newly imported data might not have been visible immediately, depending on the Librarian's filter settings. Now, creating a new Set List or importing data automatically clears those filter settings.
  • Selecting a performance from the Librarian window now also sets the Performance Selector to use the Librarian's search and filter criteria.
  • Previously, in the Modulation List, if the list of filter criteria under "Show In Mod List" was particularly long, the last filter criteria button might not be shown. This has now been fixed.
  • The Librarian list view now selects new or updated items after import, and deselects all items on undo.
  • Import is now supported in demo mode.
  • Added new contextual menu commands to the Performance Selector at the top left of the window: "Select in Librarian," and "Export…," and "Add To Set List..." "Select In Librarian" switches to the Librarian page with the current Performance selected. "Export" does the same, and then brings up the dialog to export the Performance to disk. "Add To Set List..." brings up a dialog allowing the user to add the Performance to any slot in the Active Set List; the slot defaults to the first Init Performance, if present, or otherwise to slot A1.
  • Improved the logic for item selection when updating metadata. Selection is now preserved if you edit text and press Enter. Selection is also now preserved after editing metadata when the list is sorted by modification date.
  • Previously, immediately after startup, keyboard commands would not work until the user clicked in the main window area. This has now been fixed.
  • In Set Lists, the background color of the name text editor is now the same as that of the set list slots.
  • Previously, for numeric editing fields, the text flashed briefly when clicking inc/dec. This has now been fixed. Also, the inc/dec buttons are now slightly larger.
  • The QWERTY arrow keys now control inc/dec when a numeric field is selected.
  • Disabled Save icons are now correctly dimmed in Demo mode.
  • Previously, on some systems, the factory data download could potentially fail. This has now been fixed.
  • The factory data download screen now also includes a check for available software updates.

Version 1.3.6

  • Window Size settings now affect combo-boxes, menus, and Set List windows.
  • In the Librarian window and Selector dialogs, in the Filters section on the left, the list of Categories now hides unused Categories. Additionally, the correct categories are now shown for the different Sequence Lane types.
  • In the standalone software's Audio/MIDI Settings dialog, the height of the MIDI device selector is now improved.
  • Previously, the bottom status bar was too dark when settings/randomize dialogs were open, making help text hard to read. This has now been fixed.
  • Windows only: Improved high-dpi support on Windows. Previously, contextual menus, alert messages. and Set List windows could appear too small.
  • Windows only: closing a specific Set List window may also close other set list windows.

Version 1.3.5

UI Persistence

  • The filter settings for all database selectors (such as Program Category selections) are now stored for each plug-in instance, along with Librarian view type and Mod List filters.

Installation

  • Improved workflow for initial installation of sound data; the user only needs to select a destination folder if installing to a non-default location.
  • Factory data is now downloaded to a temporary file on disk instead of into RAM. This should improve reliability in rare cases in which the user's computer did not have sufficient free RAM for the download.
  • The installer now allows installation of plug-ins even if a newer version is present.
  • In the Activation screen, added Japanese translations for "Activate an existing license" and "Thank you for using KORG software products."
  • The About box now includes the location of the Sound Database folder.
  • If the Zoom preference is absent, the plug-in now automatically finds the best size for the screen, starting at 100 and reducing as necessary.

Modulation & Automation

  • On/Off switches for all effects are now automatable.
  • Automation for tapered controls is now shown in % of the control position.
  • Previously, the internal parameter "Scale Select Macro" was included in the automation list; this has now been fixed.
  • Modulation intensity now correctly shows the plus sign for modulations on unipolar parameters.
  • Poly Legato and Random1-4 are now correctly excluded as mod sources for Program-level parameters (e.g. Unison voices, etc).

Librarian and Sound Browser

  • The Favorite setting is now preserved when Saving.
  • The enter key can now make a new line in the Librarian Inspector and Save dialog's Notes field; this displays as a space in the list view.
  • The Author, Collection, and Notes fields can now be completely empty; previously, these required at least a space character.
  • The librarian search box now restricts input to the standard character set.
  • When you edit a field in the Librarian metadata inspector without pressing Enter, and then click on another list item, the new item is now selected as expected.
  • The Librarian now continues to show the current Category/Collection filters when changing object type, even if they don't apply to the new type. (Previously, they continued to apply, but were not displayed.)
  • When switching Librarian Type to Effects, Category filtering is now cleared, since Effects don't support Categories.
  • In the Librarian, if a Collection is selected and then all of its items are deleted or moved out of the Collection, the Collection name is now removed from the filters list.
  • In the Sound Browser and the Librarian window, Categories and Collections are now kept sorted even when the initial selection is missing, and when showing "All Data" in the Librarian.
  • Added more space between database selector "filtered list" icon and the inc/dec arrows, to make the "filtered list" icon easier to click.
  • When undoing an import action, the message now reads "Please wait…"
  • Previously, the Export progress bar might not have closed properly. This has now been fixed.

Other improvements

  • If a Motion Sequence Step is selected in the Mod Sources panel's single-Lane editor, this is also reflected in the main Motion Sequencer view. This resolves an issue in which the single-Lane editor could be stuck on Step A1.
  • Seq lane loop modes should be shown as four states, not three states plus random.
  • Seq A-D Lanes can now be pasted into any of Seq A-D Lanes.
  • When the Mod Sources panel's single-Lane Sequence editor is first opened, the title now correctly shows the Step being edited (A1).
  • The Modern Phaser envelope graphic is now improved, and is also now editable.
  • Added help text for modulation panel add/remove buttons, Motion Sequencer Random Order and Lane Type.
  • Settings dialog CC Assign text "Perf Mod Knobs" should be simply "Mod Knobs."
  • Previously, when Sync To Host was enabled on, changing Performances could re-enable local tempo. This has now been fixed.
  • Double-clicking on Multi Filter Crossfade now sets the value to 0%, instead of 50%.
  • The name of the Undo action for changes to Mod Knob Polarity now includes "Polarity" instead of just "Value."
  • Previously, when the Master lane was reset, if a Lane's last Step was a rest, the first Step would also incorrectly act as a rest. This has now been fixed.
  • Graphic EQ band slider labels now update when the type changes.
  • Previously, the asterisk next to the Performance name, indicating an edited state, often showed after changing performances in VST3 hosts. This has now been fixed.
  • Previously, randomizing the arpeggiator also randomized Layer effects. This has now been fixed.
  • Undo Randomize now works correctly.
  • Previously, if the user edited a Set List, closed the Set List window, and then used Undo, a crash could occur. This has now been fixed.
  • If the previously active Set List no longer exists, the default Set List is selected; if that also doesn't exist, the alphabetically first Set List is selected.
  • The contextual menu in the Set List window now reads "Make Active" instead of "Select On Synth."
  • Windows only: previously, dialog boxes might have overlapped. This has now been fixed.
  • Other improvements to functionality and efficiency.

Version 1.2.8

  • While moving plug-in knobs and sliders in Ableton Live, Live may send the resulting parameter changes back to the plug-in out of order. Previously, this interfered with smooth knob and slider movement. This out-of-order feedback is now ignored.
  • A change in FL Studio 24 resulted in a namespace collision, which in turn caused plugins to crash. This has now been fixed.
  • When an updated version is detected, the download link now uses https instead of http. The previous use of http caused a security warning to appear in Chrome browsers.

Version 1.2.7

  • Undo and redo now work correctly with radio buttons and alphanumeric values controlled by inc/dec, such as Tempo.
  • Previously, Mod Knobs might not work correctly with the Keystage via MIDI 2.0 CI after changing Mod Knob CC assignments in the Settings dialog. This has now been fixed.
  • Previously, when changing Performances from the Keystage via MIDI 2.0 CI, the display on the Keystage side occasionally might not have updated correctly. This has now been fixed.
  • Previously, incrementing through Performances from the Keystage via MIDI 2.0 CI might not have worked correctly if a Performance was in more than one Slot in the current Set List. This has now been fixed.
  • When the stand-alone application's MIDI Input is set to the Keystage, the MIDI Output is also automatically set to the Keystage. This now works reliably.

Version 1.2.6

New Features

  • New effect: Orange Phase V2, an updated version of the Orange Phase effect. The original Orange Phase is still available, for compatibility with existing sounds. A set of effect presets must be installed separately: Orange_Phase_V2.mwbundle.zip

Other Improvements

  • UI improvements to Black Chorus/Flanger, Black Phaser and Orange Phaser effects.
  • MIDI 2.0 CI improvements.

Version 1.2.4

New Features

  • New user-requested modulation sources have been added:
Pitch Bend+ and Pitch Bend- use only positive or negative pitch bend movements as the modulation source, ignoring the other polarity.
Kaoss X+, X-, Y+, and Y- let you create four independent modulation routings emanating from the center of the pad.
Random 1+ and Random 2+ generate random positive numbers, unique per voice, at note-on.
Random 3 +/- and Random 4 +/- are similar, but the generated numbers may be either positive or negative.
Constant Max generates the maximum modulation value (which can be thought of as either 1.0 or 100).
Motion Seq On lets you create modulation based on whether or not the Motion Sequence is enabled.
Step Pitch lets you modulate parameters via the Pitch Lane. For modulation destinations which use semitone units, a modulation Intensity of +1.0 produces one semitone of modulation for each one semitone change in the Pitch Lane. This is convenient for modulating Filter Cutoff, for instance. Note that this means that the overall signal level can be very high.
  • All LFOs have been updated to include a Free-Run mode (including Trigger controls), Curve mode (Symmetric/Asymmetric), and Delay.
The new Sync Notes Mode parameter controls behavior when Sync Notes is On.
Sync Notes: start phase syncs to the oldest sounding note, but with note-specific modulation. This is the classic "Sync Notes" behavior.
Free Run: all notes share a single LFO, which starts when the sound is selected and only re-starts if specifically triggered.
  • Scale editing is now supported. Please see the manual for more information.
  • Changed the export file extension for scales to .korgscale, and that of  wavetables to .korgwavetable. Older wavetable files and scales stored within bundles will still load as well. This is the first version to add user scale editing, so there should be no pre-existing user scale data.
  • Reverb Sends now include Pre/Post switches.
Pre: the signal is routed to the Send before the Layer Volume is applied. This means that the Send level is independent of Layer Volume. For 100% reverb, set the switch to Pre, and turn the Layer Volume all the way down.
Post: the signal is routed to the Send after the Layer Volume is applied. This is the default, and the way that the modwave worked previously. As you increase or decrease Layer Volume, the proportion of the dry and reverberant sounds remains the same.
  • MIDI CI functionality is now supported, for connection to the Keystage.

Other Improvements

  • Program Transpose is now split into two separate parameters: Octave (+/- 4) and Transpose (+/-12). Previous settings will be preserved in the new format; for example, an old Transpose setting of +30 will now be shown as Octave = +2 and Transpose = +6. Note: this invalidates previously created automation of Transpose.
  • Fixed a graphic display issue when typing in an Intensity value in the Mod List (as opposed to using the slider).
  • Previously, if Kaoss Physics was Off but auto-launch was enabled in the Preset, Kaoss Physics would momentarily output the Start X/Y points before snapping to the center point. If Lag Time was non-zero, this could be audible. This has now been fixed.
  • Improvements to copy/paste/insert for Motion Sequencer Steps.
  • Previously, after undoing Insert Before/After in Motion Sequences, redo did not work. This has now been fixed.
  • Previously, in the Librarian, if multiple items were selected, clicking on the Info panel's Favorite icon could inadvertently edit the item names. This has now been fixed.
  • A progress bar now appears during long Librarian operations, such as when importing many wavetables.
  • Previously, Favorite status would be turned off after undoing a delete or duplicate action. This has now been fixed.
  • Previously, clicking on the heart icon in the Librarian inspector caused keyboard focus to move to the Name text editor. It now moves to the main Librarian list instead.
  • The Librarian now prevents empty sound names; if you delete all characters, the name reverts to the previous text.
  • When editing Mod Knob names, the Editor now prevents entering excessively long names, illegal characters (e.g. backslash), or empty names.
  • Previously, the on-screen graphics for LFO waveforms Random 1 and Random 4 might have displayed incorrectly. This has now been fixed.

Version 1.1.4

  • Versions 1.1.0 through 1.1.3 could save LFOs in a state which worked properly with modwave native and modwave hardware version 2.0 and later, but did not work if exported to older versions of modwave hardware. This has now been fixed. Additionally, the first time that the software runs, all Programs and Performances in the database are checked for this issue and corrected if necessary. If you later import data which had been saved in this state, you can run the check/correction process manually via the new Verify Sound Data menu command.
  • Refreshing the User Sample Banks now stops the arpeggiator.
  • When importing into the Librarian, if the data to be imported contains only factory sounds, the UI will now ask if the user wants to update factory sounds. (This is in contrast to the behavior with a group of mixed factory and user sounds, in which the system will first offer to skip the factory sounds, and then offer to make unique copies of any duplicates.)

Version 1.1.3

Improvements

  • The Update Available popup now works properly in conjunction with the Demo splash screen.
  • Improvements to undo/redo for Sound Selectors.
  • The footer's Seq Pulse/A/B/C/D sections are now disabled if the Motion Sequencer is off.

Version 1.1.2

Improvements

  • When downloading the sound database on first install, modwave native now confirms that the user has write privileges for the selected folder before starting the download.
  • Data saved in a DAW session should be recalled correctly even if the Performance is not present in the wavestate native database. Version 1.2.0 introduced an issue in which this might not happen. Version 1.2.2 restores the correct behavior.
  • Previously, the progress bar shown when downloading factory data switched from showing 10ths of a MB to 10ths of a GB, which made it seems as if the download was proceeding more slowly. The progress bar now shows 10ths of a MB throughout the download.

Version 1.1.1

Improvements

  • Version 1.1.0 introduced a problem in which, on macOS only, Cubase could crash if the Sound Selector was on screen, and then UI focus was switched elsewhere. This has now been fixed.
  • When a new FX Preset is selected, FX Edit Knobs 1/2/3 are reset to 0 (so that the FX Preset sounds as intended). Previously, however, modulation routings controlling the FX Edit Knobs would be retained, which could cause the FX Preset to sound differently than intended. These modulation routings are now removed when a new FX Preset is selected.
  • Undo/Redo now applies to changes made in Sound Selectors - for example, selecting Programs, Wave Sequences, Effects Presets, or Multisamples.
  • Previously, a faint dark square might sometimes show behind on/off "power" buttons. This has now been fixed.

Version 1.1.0

Improvements

  • A change in ProTools 2023.6 caused a crash when loading the AAX version of the plug-in. In collaboration with Avid, this has now been fixed. The fix should also avoid collisions with other hosts or plugins using Google protobuf.
  • Audio quality is now improved when running at 44.1 kHz and 88.2  kHz sample rates.
  • Previously, on macOS, if permissions were not correct for the modwave System folder (containing the sound database), modwave native could crash on startup. This has now been fixed.
  • Pitch offsets saved in a FL Studio project are now restored when the project is loaded.
  • Previously, if you played and held a note while pressing OK/Refresh in the User Sample Banks dialog, a crash could occur. This has now been fixed.
  • Previously, crashes could occur if Performances were changed rapidly and repeatedly. This has now been fixed.
  • Copy/paste for effects now includes modulations controlling the FX Edit 1/2/3 knobs.
  • Previously, modulation on Reverb Send B didn't show up in Mod List until a modulation was added to Reverb Send A. This has now been fixed.
  • Sequencer sources now appear properly in the Mod List.
  • Modulations to LFO waveform now appear in the mod panel immediately after clicking on the waveform selector.
  • Voice modulation sources are now correctly excluded for LFO Waveform modulations.
  • CCs mapped to bipolar knobs can now reach the center 0 value.
  • At the beginning of a note, Release Velocity now defaults to 0, as opposed to 100.
  • The Kaoss Physics Lag knob is now always enabled, even when Kaoss Physics is off.
  • The help message "Kaoss Physics is turned off" now appears, when appropriate, when hovering over the main Kaoss Physics editor.
  • The Reverse Delay Sync Source selector is now wide enough to contain the source name text.
  • Previously, on Windows with Settings > System > Display -> Scale set to over 100%, the window for the standalone application might start with the title bar off of the display. This has now been fixed.
  • Previously, Step Solo might have stopped working intermittently. This has now been fixed.
  • Previously, double-clicking the first Set List slot didn't properly change the Performance. This has now been fixed.

Version 1.0.2

  • Ignores Program Change messages if they arrive before state is restored (solves issue in which state was not restored in Logic if there was a Program Change message at the start of the track)

Version 1.0.1

  • Corrected VST3 parameter change mechanism (solves issue with high CPU usage for VST3)

Version 1.0.0

  • Initial release
