SYN1/2 Parameters (Part 1)

Press either the SYN1 or SYN2 buttons to access the sound creation and editing parameters of that part. SYN1 and SYN2 are made from the same parameters, so this sections will cover both parts. Certain knobs can be automated; that is, their motion can be recorded as part of the sequence. With REC (Record) button pressed, tweak the knob to capture and record the knob motion. Don’t forget to save your edits!

  1. PITCH parameters 
    OCTAVE : This knob determines the overall pitch, in octave steps.
    PORTA (Portamento) : Portamento produces a continuous glide in pitch between notes; this knob controls the portamento time.
    EG INT (Envelope Generator Intensity) : The Envelope Generator (EG) can be used to control the pitch. With this knob in the center position, no EG is applied to the pitch. Rotating the knob to the right of center increases the EG intensity; rotating the knob to the left of center increases the EG intensity, but with the polarity of the EG inverted.

 

  1. VCO (Voltage Controlled Oscillators) parameters
    VCO1, VCO2 : 
    There are two oscillators; use these two knobs to select the waveform being used by each oscillator. The waveform, or waveshape, determines the harmonic content of the sound
    VCO1 PW (Pulse Width) : When a Square Wave is chosen using the OSC1 knob, the width of this square wave can be changed from a wide pulse to a narrow pulse. The width of the square wave affects the sound.
    VCO2 PITCH : The second oscillator (VC02) can be detuned from VCO1. A small amount of detuning creates a rich chorus or can simulate analog oscillator drift. In addition, VC02 can be tuned to a musical interval in relation to VCO1 (4th, 5th, Octave, etc.). With this knob in the center position, no detuning is applied to the pitch of VC02. Rotating the knob to the right of center tunes VCO2 higher in pitch; rotating the knob to the left of center tunes VCO2 lower in pitch.
    VCO SYNC : Sync’ing the Oscillators forces both Oscillators to restart their cycle at the same time. If the Oscillators are detuned, this will produce an interesting tonal change as the oscillators shift to remain in Sync.
    BALANCE : This knob controls the balance between the output of VCO1 and VCO2. The center position is equal balance.

 

  1. VCF (Voltage Controlled Filter) parameters
    CUTOFF (Filter Frequency) : 
    The filter shapes the tone by selectively filtering certain parts of the harmonic spectrum. This knob is used to tune the Filter.
    PEAK : Also known as Resonance or Q, the peak control adds additional emphasis to the sound at the CUTOFF frequency. By turning the PEAK up adjusting the CUTOFF, the Filter can be forced to self-oscillate and create interesting filter effects.
    EG INT (Envelope Generator Intensity) : The Envelope Generator (EG) can be used to control the CUTOFF, or filter frequency. With this knob in the center position, no EG is applied to the Filter. Rotating the knob to the right of center increases the EG intensity; rotating the knob to the left of center increases the EG intensity, but with the polarity of the EG inverted.
    TYPE : The multi-mode filter provides three filter Types:
    LPF Low Pass Filter : Frequencies above the CUTOFF value are attenuated (reduced).
    HPF High Pass Filter : Frequencies below the CUTOFF value are attenuated (reduced).
    BPF Band Pass Filter : Frequencies above and below the CUTOFF value are attenuated (reduced). The width of the band-pass filter is determined by the PEAK control.
    OSCILLISCOPE : Seeing is believing! The OSCILLISCOPE provides a graphic representation of the final sound.

 

  1. EG (Envelope Generator)

    The Envelope Generator provides a precise control signal that varies over time. It can be used to control the Pitch, VCF, and/or the VCA.

    ATTACK : The ATTACK specifies the time required for the EG to reach its maximum level once a new note is played
    DECAY : The DECAY specifies the time required for the EG to fall to the preset Sustain level once the Attack portion of the EG is complete.
    SUSTAIN : The SUSTAIN specifies the level that will be maintained while the key is held down or a trigger is applied.
    RELEASE : The RELEASE specifies the time required for the EG to reach its minimum level (zero) once the key or trigger is released.

 

  1. VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier)
    LEVEL :
    The VCA LEVEL controls the output level of the Synthesizer part.
    DRIVE : The DRIVE control can introduce some wonderful warm overdrive or edgy snarl to the sound by saturating the VCA circuitry.
    VCA EG : Using this switch, you can use the EG to control the VCA level (EG Position), or use a simple Key on /off circuit—much like an organ— (GATE Position). This way, the Level can be set high and the EG can be used to sweep the filter, etc.
